Hi, Reader,
I am so excited that today is the book birthday of my debut picture book Chloe’s Lunar New Year. When I started the manuscript years ago as part of my program with Hamline University’s MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults, I didn’t dream that I could actually be sharing it with you.
I’m doing several in-person and virtual events throughout January. Links to these events are on the My Events page of my website. Please come by and say hi.
January 7 at 6:30 pm CT at Red Ballon Book Shop in St. Paul, MN. Registration required.
January 14 at 2 pm PT at Brick and Mortar Books in Redmond, WA
January 15 at 10am PT/1 pm ET at Books of Wonder in NYC on Crowdcast along with authors Aram Kim and Ying Chang Compestine. Registration required.
January 21 at 11 am at Books Inc, Town and Country, Palo Alto with Nicole Chen and her debut picture book How We Say I Love You

I'm also signing books through Imprint Bookstore at hello@imprintbookstore.com or (360) 379-2617.
Just a quick reminder that if you order Chloe’s Lunar New Year through an indie book store, you can enter my drawing by replying to this email with your receipt attached. One winner will get a recipe tea towel with my mom’s daikon radish cake. The same cake Chloe and her family feast on in the book!
Wishing you a joyful Year of the Rabbit!!
~~Lily

Hi, I got the fantastic news from my lovely editor that my middle grade graphic novel Unhappy Camper is an ALA Children's Best Graphic Novel 2024 selection. I am so honored!! Also, since I don't read reviews because that's the best way to stay focused on drafting my new book, I couldn't tell if anyone was connecting to Unhappy Camper. I'm so glad to find that readers are connecting with it!! In other news, I had such an amazing time teaching a three-day writer-in-residence for the Crofton...
Hi, Friend, Happy Almost Lunar New Year and Spring Festival! The dragon will leave to make room for the snake on January 29, 2025. The snake is associated with wisdom and resilience which is certainly excellent traits we could all use. I know I can! I’m looking forward to spending time with family for Lunar New Year. No hot pot this year since scheduling doesn’t allow but we’ll still get together for a lovely meal at a restaurant. And, I’ll spend time this week to, as I say in Chloe’s Lunar...
Poulsbo Kids' Book Festival Hi, The fabulous Liberty Bay Books in Poulsbo, WA is doing their first kids book festival this Saturday from 11 am to 3 pm at the Sons of Norway Hall. The festival is a dream of its owner and kid lit author Suzanne Selfors. I love both being an author and an attendee of kids book festivals. It is so much fun to see and talk to so many kid lit authors all in one place. There is so much great energy! Check out the authors who will be there....
